Crown Lengthening for Deep Cavities
If your smile appears “gummy” or your teeth seem too short, crown lengthening could be the solution. This procedure reshapes the gum line to expose more of your natural teeth, enhancing both function and aesthetics.
During crown lengthening, excess gum tissue is carefully removed from around the upper teeth to make them appear longer. If your gum line is uneven, the procedure can also be used to sculpt it for a more symmetrical and harmonious smile.
Crown Lengthening for Worn Teeth
Crown lengthening can be performed for dental health, medical, or cosmetic reasons. For instance, if decay or a fracture is found below the gum line, this procedure can expose more of the tooth’s crown, allowing for a proper filling or restoration.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. As the numbness wears off, some discomfort along the treated gum line is normal. Your dentist may prescribe pain medication, so it’s important to inform us of any medications you are currently taking. A follow-up visit is typically scheduled to monitor healing and remove any stitches.
