Wellington Office:
Dental Implant Procedure in 10 Steps
Sequence of Appointments
Patient education is crucial for successful implant procedures. Dr. Kurt Bally and our Modern Dental Smiles team ensure you're informed at every step for optimal results. Here's what to anticipate.
- Initial Consultation:
Your journey to a restored smile begins here. During your consultation with Dr. Kurt O. Bally, DMD, FICOI, we will discuss your dental implant options and tailor a plan that suits your specific needs. This initial, free consultation is valued at $525 and typically lasts about one hour. - Records and Imaging:
In this step, we’ll gather essential records such as dental X-rays, 3D scans, and photographs. These images help us create a customized treatment plan and ensure the precise fabrication of your dental implants. - Pre-Surgical Consultation:
Before your surgery, we’ll schedule a pre-surgical consult to discuss the procedure's risks, benefits, and the expected recovery process. This is your opportunity to ask any questions and ensure you feel comfortable and fully informed before moving forward. - Implant Surgery:
During the surgery, dental implants are placed into your jawbone. This procedure typically takes about 2 hours per jaw and is performed under oral anesthesia for your comfort. On the same day, you will leave with temporary teeth, and within 1-2 weeks, you’ll return for your first post-op visit to receive your first implant prototype teeth. To aid healing, it's important to maintain a soft diet until you receive your prototype teeth. - Implant Prototypes:
1-2 weeks after your surgery, you’ll return for a follow-up visit to assess your healing and receive your first set of implant prototype teeth. These prototypes will be attached directly to your implants, allowing you to test both the fit and feel. Up to 3 versions of the prototype teeth can be made during the healing process to ensure that both you and your dentist are satisfied with the appearance and function. As your implants heal, your dentist will create a series of prototypes to finalize the perfect fit before the final bridge is permanently placed. - Healing Phase:
After your implants are placed, a healing period of 4-6 months is required before proceeding to the next stage. During this time, Dr. Bally will provide a night guard to protect your implants from excess pressure while you sleep. You will also need to stick to a soft diet to support the healing process and ensure the best possible outcome for your implants. - Delivery of Permanent Bridge:
The delivery appointment is when your permanent dental bridge is placed. This final procedure usually takes about one hour and marks the culmination of your journey. It's an exciting and rewarding visit for both you and our team, as you see the transformation of your smile with your new, permanent restoration. - Post-Delivery Consult and Documentation:
Following the installation of your new zirconia implant smile, this appointment will be held to ensure everything is in place. You'll receive your final night guard, and we will go over the necessary instructions to help maintain your beautiful new smile. During this visit, we will also take final pictures, X-rays, and videos to document the successful completion of your zirconia implant journey. - Maintenance:
To ensure the longevity and proper function of your zirconia implant smile, regular maintenance is essential. This includes routine cleaning, necessary adjustments, and regular checkups to monitor the health of your implants and overall smile. Keeping up with these visits will help maintain both the aesthetics and functionality of your new smile.
