Enhanced Protection for Your Smile
Brushing and flossing are essential for maintaining your oral health, but there are areas of your teeth that can be difficult to reach with just a toothbrush. The small grooves and cracks in your teeth can trap plaque and bacteria, leading to tooth decay. Dental sealants offer extra protection to help prevent cavities and keep your teeth strong and healthy.
How Sealants Work
Dental sealants are a thin coating of plastic resin applied to the deep grooves in your teeth. Once sealed, these grooves become smooth, making it harder for plaque to accumulate. Sealants help make your brushing routine more effective by providing an additional layer of defense against cavities.
Who Should Get Sealants?
Sealants are most commonly applied to children’s permanent teeth once they have fully emerged. This helps prevent early tooth decay. However, adults with healthy teeth can also benefit from sealants. While permanent teeth are typically sealed, we evaluate each patient’s individual needs and can recommend sealants on a case-by-case basis.
Longevity and Maintenance
Sealants usually last between three to five years, but they can often remain effective for even longer. During your routine dental exams, we’ll check the condition of your sealants. If a sealant becomes chipped or dislodged, we can easily reapply it to maintain your tooth’s protection.
